ReplyDeleteRobert Gossett was phenomenal. I was so moved by his performance as Marshall. It's heartbreaking for him to contemplate living under a cloak of fear for four decades, leaving his family behind because he thought they would be better off and only to find out his diagnosis of schizophrenia might have been wrong. Robert Gossett is a great actor and at 68 is still a powerhouse.
DeleteCameron's face said it all. I'm sure Joss will produce lots of waterworks. But if she's honest, she'll have to admit she chose to sleep with a man before she broke up with him. I hope Joss will wear her big girl pants and not permit Dex to defend her.
I honestly wouldn't have given it a passing thought, Joss sleeping with Dex even if it had been 300 seconds after she broke up with Cameron. Because she was phoning it in for months with Cameron and wasn't happy. Ultimately she made the decision to cheat on him even though he's been her friend for a long time and deserved loyalty and honesty.
Couldn't agree more! Feeling for Marshall after today, and no pity for Joss, she did this to herself (and worse Cam) even though she knew better. I hope she learns a lesson, and Dex can definitely stay out of it, he knew it was cheating too. Still can't believe she did Cam that way, he was nothing but sweet to her. Folks can grow apart, especially under the circumstances, that's fine, but give him some dignity by ending things first. Hate that she treated a long-time friend that way, then has the nerve to bite back at Spencer (he sees it, believe me). Way to be a friend Spencer! He cares for Cam, and for Joss really, just wants her to be straight with them. Spencer has become my favorite teen on the show, ha. He's owning that Cassadine role now.
DeleteOh, Cameron!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor kid, what a way to find out. Why Joss, why!?!? I really don't like that couple (Dex and Joss)--together, they are so artificial and self-indulgent, just hung up on themselves. None of their conversations feel sincere to me, everything forced. Joss should be having a serious reckoning over Brando and Britts' deaths, and her own philandering ways, not hopping into bed with this guy every time he shows up. She's not showing any emotional depth. Boo. But a hurrah to a solid performance from Marshall today--for once, they made me feel this storyline. More of that! Still not liking Portia and Curtis for being so pushy, though. More understanding needed from them. They also need to move Austin's storyline along, another redundant one that's just getting old with the same old conversations and threats. I swear they are just copy/pasting the script there. Bring Ava into it, sure, she'll at least liven things up!
ReplyDeleteI just posted above about Robert Gossett, he was amazing today. He's such a great actor and I loved that he was given such a meaty scene because it brought tears to my eyes. I'm not fond of Portia. Her intentions are golden but you can attract more bees with honey than with vinegar. She kept at him and that bothered me. People have free will even if you disagree with their choices.
DeleteAs for Dex and Joss, they both look like adults. I'd never guess Joss graduated less than a year ago. But their dialogue is terrible. I can blame the writers for that but their scenes definitely ring hollow. The way she tells him she feels safe doesn't feel genuine. And she might be relieved that Dex intends to stop working for Sonny in 6 months but that doesn't change the fact that she judges Sonny but is dating a henchman of his. When she wants to, she doesn't mind using Sonny for clout like she did with Esme. Are they trying to make Joss a mini-Carly. I don't like Carly, never have but Eden is no Laura, she's not even in the same ballpark.
The truth is when there's a good scenes with solid writing, it feels like an accident because the writing is usually pretty dull, redundant and contributes to GH's huge pacing problems.
That's really it, their dialogue is just bad and the actors aren't good enough to make up for it. Given good lines, they could swing it. Joss having feelings for someone working for Sonny when she hates his lifestyle (supposedly, though with your points, actually doubtful) is a bad look on her too. They just clash as a couple for me, especially with Cam as collateral damage, and really Britt and Brando too. Joss could be having scenes of real substance, but instead of depth she's just fawning over this Jason-substitute guy. They are trying too hard to turn her into Carly, boo. Let her be her own person, I liked her before. Corn and all, ha. As for the writing, I agree. The characters I like best are the ones who are owning their characters themselves, like Ava and Spencer, and I feel like they (in my mind) probably fiddle with the scripts on set to their liking. I feel like Maurice Benard used to do that with Sonny, which is what made him so likable (a long time ago now). Now he's just phoning his acting in. Meanwhile someone like Maura West always delivers with panache, and is amazing to watch no matter what she's doing or saying. They can throw her in every scene for all I care, she makes everyone around her better. Can't wait to see her work with Spencer, he's absolutely owning his character too. Delivery can really compensate for writing, to me at least. Marshall did that incredibly well today too.

Sonya Eddy may not have passed away at the time these scenes were filmed. I don't know how far in advance of real time they film, but I know it can be quite awhile. I can't imagine them replacing her. I don't think the viewers would ever accept that. But who knows?

ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Curtis father back in the day in the '70s he was misdiagnosed with that schizophrenia stuff and I think he may know it cuz he don't show any signs or symptoms of it or let alone know recent experience from it because I have people in my family who suffer from that same disease
